The Department of Anthropology is a part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. As such, students majoring in anthropology are required to complete the General Education Requirements set forth by this college. In total, students in anthropology must complete 120.0 credits of which 45.0 must be at the advanced level (300+ level courses).
Additional Requirements
- The Liberal Arts and Science College requires that a student complete at least 8 credits numbered 300 or above in their major at Iowa State University. The student must receive a grade of C or higher in these courses.
- The student’s overall average grade in all courses used in the major must be a C (2.0/4.0 GPA) or higher.
- The Anthropology Department requires that students receive a grade of C or higher in Engl 150 and their choice of Engl 302, 309, or 314.
- Programs of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree will emphasize additional coursework in Groups I, II, and IV of the college’s General Education Requirements.
- Programs of study leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree will emphasize additional coursework in Groups III and IV of the college’s General Education Requirements.
