ISUAL - Iowa State University Archaeological Laboratory
The Iowa State University Archaeological Laboratory (ISUAL) was established in 1964 as a result of contracted archaeological work with the National Park Service in the Red Rock Reservoir along the Des Moines River south of the City of Des Moines. ISUAL conducts sponsored and original research in Iowa archaeology. The sponsored work is done in accordance with established guidelines of the Association of Iowa Archaeologists and the Historic Preservation Bureau of the State Historical Society of Iowa.

Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture
Iowa State University is the home of the nation's first interdepartmental graduate program in sustainable agriculture. This is an exciting venture for the country's oldest Land Grant institution and the Department of Anthropology is pleased to part of this new initiative.

The objectives of the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture are to:

  • Provide students with the analytical and problem-solving skills required to meet the environmental, social, and agronomic challenges confronting agriculture in the 21st century.
  • Develop student competence and expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of sustainable agricultural systems.
  • Develop an innovative approach to graduate education that is interdisciplinary and interdepartmental
  • Provide flexibility for integrative thinking and experiences.

American Indian Studies Program
Iowa State University's oldest ethnic studies program, the American Indian Studies Program (AISP) offers students opportunities to learn about the rich cultural heritage of American Indians, their historical relationship with non-Indians, and their role and influence in contemporary American society.
